چکیده
pattern. She was in her 23rd week of pregnancy. Amagnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) was performed. Cholecystolithiasis and a common bile duct stone were observed (Fig. 1). Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was deemed to be the treatment of choice. The patient was informed that as little radiation as possible would be used. However, as she was in her second trimester of pregnancy, there was a reduced possibility of teratogenicity with a short radiation time. As in this gestational stage the abdomen is already distended, the ERCP procedure was performed with the patient lying on her left side. A lead apron was used to cover the patient’s abdomen. A tapered sphincterotome loaded with a 0.025 inch guidewire was used for common bile duct cannulation (Autotome, Rapid Exchange System). Once the sphincterotome had entered the ampulla, in the theoretically common bile duct position, the guidewire was pushed and advanced freely. Afterwards, the sphicterotome was passed after the guidewire, and bile juice was aspirated to assess a correct bile duct position. The guidewire was secured not to lose biliary cannulation. The sphincterotome was squeezed and Vater’s papilla was cut (Fig. 2). Subsequently, the sphincterotome was withdrawn, leaving always the ERCP without fluoroscopy in a pregnant woman with a common bile duct stone

Endoscopic management of symptomatic choledocholithiasis in pregnancy without the use of radiations.
We report a case of 26-year-old woman at 10th week of gestation with cholestatic jaundice due to a common bile duct (CBD) stone managed by endoscopical retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The procedure was successfully carried out without the use of ionizing radiations and under trans-abdominal ultrasonographical (US) control. A few cases are reported in literature in which ERCP was per...
متن کاملTwo stage endoscopic approach for management of choledocholithiasis during pregnancy.
BACKGROUND AND AIM Management of choledocholithiasis during pregnancy is difficult. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of managing common bile duct (CBD) stones during pregnancy using a two-stage procedure without any fetal radiation exposure. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eleven consecutive pregnant women treated endoscopically for choledocholithiasis between 1996-2005, at ...

INTRODUCTION Only limited data are available regarding the safety of therapeutic ERCP in pregnancy. We report our experience with therapeutic ERCP in pregnant women. METHODS Medical records of 18 pregnant women (first trimester 4, second 6, third 8) who underwent ERCP between July 1994 and December 2004 were reviewed. Patients and their families were contacted to assess the well being of moth...
متن کاملFeasibility of a thumb-controlled device in double-balloon enteroscopy-assisted ERCP.
In recent years, patients with common bile duct calculi and Roux-en-Y anatomy have been treated using double-balloon enteroscopy-assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (DBEERCP). It is known that cannulation in this procedure is difficult [1–3]. We hypothesized that a thumb-controlled device (Smart shooter, TOP corporation, Tokyo, Japan [4]) (●" Fig.1) would be useful for DBE-E...
متن کاملEfficacy and Safety of Pancreatobiliary Endoscopic Procedures during Pregnancy
BACKGROUND/AIMS Endoscopic therapy with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has been suggested as an effective diagnostic and therapeutic tool for biliary and pancreatic disorders during pregnancy. In this report, we describe our experiences with pancreatobiliary endoscopic procedures during pregnancy. METHODS We reviewed ERCP and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) procedures ...
